Sebago was founded in New England in 1949, by Daniel Wellehan, William Beaudoin and Joseph Cordeau. The first shoe they made was styled after the Indian moccasin shoes, a classic, hand-sewn penny loafer. The Sebago company grew quickly, selling over 2000 pairs of shoes a day by 1952, and causing the three men to open a new factory to meet the increasing demand. In the next few decades the brand would continue to spread successfully, developing its own style of shoes named 'docksides' and now known internationally.
