Since moving to Berlin three years ago with only “three suitcases and a dream”, pop artist and producer Shaw Cain aka Black Popstar has added a new string to her bow: working on the door of the city’s clubs. With her unique insights on nightclub style, she explores the new house rules of partywear in her signature fashion: “a little bit banjee, a little bit luxe, and with a dash of Euro-chic.”

“Fake fur is fierce because no animals were harmed in the making. When I step out in fake fur, it’s giving classic. I feel very luxe. If I’m going to a fancy party, I’ll wear one that’s really long, to the floor, with a nice collar. For a fashion function or an art party, I’d wear something cropped to really snatch the waist and show them what I’m working with. What do I wearto find my party style?
“When I think of party style, I really think of being myself, being original and standing out by doing my own thing. Some girls come to Berlin and think they have to wear all black, but I don’t think that’s real. That’s not really representative of what I see. My favourite part of working on the door at parties in Berlin is seeing so many cuties. So be who you are, be yourself, and always make sure you’re jewelled up and accessorised. You’re coming out to shine.”

“To make sequins and glitter feel modern and fresh, I go for pieces that are really fitted to my body. I choose unique silhouettes and try to find things that bring shine to a look. It doesn’t always have to be the same silver sequins. It could be metal chainmail or beading that’s done in a very different way. Anything that reflects the light.
