PHYSICAL VS CHEMICAL SUNSCREENS
Now we are familiar with the basics, the ABC of SPF, we can delve into the nerdy nitty-gritty. There are two types of sunscreen: physical and chemical. Both protect us from harmful rays, but in slightly different ways.
Physical sunscreens use titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to protect us. These minerals form a barrier on the skin and physically block out harmful rays. These tend to suit those with more sensitive skin as the protective ingredients sit on top of the skin and shield us.
Chemical filters, on the other hand, are absorbed into the skin. Here, the active ingredients convert the harmful rays into heat. As Son explains, these typically have a lighter texture and make for smoother application.
When it comes to ‘physical vs chemical’, both protect us, so it’s only a question of which works best for your skin!
