First thing’s first: what actually is a ‘transitional jacket’?
I would define it as a jacket that is versatile and can be worn between the seasons. Something that can serve well in spring, summer, autumn and winter — in those periods when it’s not hot, but also not really cold.
As an editor who’s always on the go, why is a good transitional jacket so important?
If a jacket is good enough, it makes for an effortless look. A good jacket can go with a variety of different looks without having to think about it too much.
What would you want from a jacket when you’re heading into nature, as opposed to, say, going on a work trip?
I’m rarely ever heading into nature haha. But if so, I’d look for something that prioritises function, especially if I’m heading to the mountains. For work it's more about what looks best on me, but also what goes best with the look I'm wearing.
What are three non-negotiables you look for in a transitional jacket?
Functionality, practicability and style!
What kind of energy do you like to channel for springtime in general?
Mostly silhouettes that are simple and clean. I do love to experiment with a monochrome look — different shades of green or beige are fun springtime vibes.
Do you prioritise fashion or function? How can we nail the balance?
I think both are important. Where you lack in one you can compensate in the other. If a jacket goes well with a look but is too light for the weather, I’ll add heat tech or something else to keep me warm.
What materials do you prefer for a spring jacket?
Lightweight materials are the best. I also love denim for spring.
Are there any styles you’re particularly fond of?
I love a bomber or double-breasted jacket.
