By now, more than 40 years of innovation and pioneering stand behind the internationally renowned U.S. label The North Face, which is a specialist for mountain climbers and extreme skiing. The foundation of the company goes back to the year 1966, when two enthusiastic hikers in the San Francisco North Beach decided to open their own shop for hiking needs. Said and done. The small business specialized on mountain climbing equipment was born and in 1968 they moved to the other side of the San Francisco Bay in the Berkeley area, in order to develop their in-house brand The North Face. The title associates the fact, that the north side of a mountain is always the hardest one to climb, and so the distinctive silhouette of Half Dome from Yosemite National Park appears on the company`s logo. Along with their success, awareness of The North Face brand has also increased and led to many more expeditions to unexplored parts of the world being sponsored by clothing and equipment of the company. The tradition continues and is also practiced up to the present day! The North Face primarily sells fleece products, jackets, shoes, tents and backpacks. One of the founders is the environmentalist Douglas Tompkins.
