The French designer Sonia Rykiel was born in Paris in 1930. She took the late ‘60s French fashion scene by storm with her knitwear collections, earning herself the title “Queen of Knitwear”. She revolutionised the fashion industry when she was the first to make seams visible in her 1974 collection. Her daughter Nathalie Rykiel, who in the meantime has taken over management of the main company, created the line Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, a more youthful version of the brand that maintains the original feminine elegance but within somewhat more affordable price ranges.
