The label Sass & Bide is one of the most acclaimed and well respected labels in Australian fashion. It was created in the late 1990s by former school mates Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton. Disappointed at the lack of tailoring in women's jeans, Clarke, who had studied to be an accountant and Middleton who was an art director, began customising jeans to their own tastes and selling them at a stall on London's Portobello Road Market. They have come a long way since then, and Sass & Bide has become an international success story. Clothing from the Sass & Bide collections has been featured in Sex in the City and worn by Beyonce and Madonna. However the label continues to uphold to its trademark quirky style and DIY beginnings, which is reflected in the Sass & Bide mantra: "dedicated to the strong, the obscure & the beautiful".
