Onitsuka Tiger was founded in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka in the Japanese town of Kobe with the vision to give young people a new perspective on sport and to enjoy life actively after the times full of privation during the war. The developments by Onitsuka made sports history, like the “Nippon 60” worn at the opening of the Olympic games in Rome, and the Mexican styles which helped their athletes break records. The small firm, which started as a shoemaker, soon developed its own style through the combination of extravagance, style and innovative fashion trends; and eventually smoothed the way to becoming an ultimate lifestyle brand with a unique and trendy “Tiger Stripe” design as their symbol. The yellow “Tai-Chi” sneakers by Beatrix Kiddo in Kill Bill, a film by Quentin Tarantino are an absolute cult item. Clearly, the labels changing past has influenced the unique design of Onitsuka Tiger.
