Libelula was created by Sophie Cranston, a designer with a star studded design history. After studying fashion design, she worked for Saville Row and Bellville Sassoon and earned the Designer of the Year award at Graduate Fashion Week in 1999, an award awarded to many of the fashion greats, such as John Galliano, Christopher Bailey and Alexander McQueen. After a stint working for McQueen, she helped Alice Temperley set up her label Temperley and stayed there for 2 years before pursuing her dream of moving to the south of Spain to learn Flamenco. It was this environment that inspired her to create Libelula (Dragonfly in Spanish). The label's headquarters are now in the UK, although Cranston's designs are now sold worldwide, known for their in-house designed prints, flattering cuts and luxurious bold fabrics with plenty of southern European flair.
