No one would have ever dreamed that the practical safety shoes from Dr. Martens would have ever risen to become the cult shoes of the wave and cult scene. A lot has changed, however, since the German inventor Dr. Klaus Maertens, designed a rugged prototype pair of work shoes with a rubber sole from army remnants shortly after World War II. In 1959, a British company bought the license to the label and changed the look to the now famous style with distinctive stitching and rugged leather covering. The once safety shoes popular among factory workers, postal workers, and police in the 60s was quickly discovered in the booming, English music scene in the late 70s. The classic "Docs" produced by Dr. Martens are still very successful, however, today the English brand offers many more new designs, ensuring that the spirit of the brand will carry on.

These look so good and are seriously comfy. I wore them for an entire weekend away and they attracted attention and were good for walking. The only downside - a slight tendency to catch the back of my heel, even tho' I was wearing decent socks. I didn't get blisters, so it's not a real issue. Oh yes! The shoelaces were reluctant to stay done up and needed a double bow
