Unique clothing brand Antik Batik was founded in 1992 by designer Gabriella Cortese. Gabirella Cortese was originally born in Turin in Italy, and later moved to fashion capital Paris to study art. During this time, she fell in love with the city, but decided to travel the world in search of more. She travelled to Tibet and along the way spent time in India, where she discovered the thousand-year-old batik technique for printing silk, which inspired her to create her first collection of pareos. As well as this, she discovered other Indian processes such as dyeing and embroidery, all of which contributed to her creating her own brand Antik Batik.
